AIPAD: The Photography Show 2024

This will mark the debut appearance of Koslov Larsen at The Photography Show. Find Koslov Larsen at Booth A18

JP Terlizzi’s colorful still-life series Creatures of Curiosity presents a lavish visual feast depicting an eclectic range where the brightness of color, ornate patterns, and unconventional food pairings suggest temptation and indulgence through the richness of nourishment, the opulence of life, and exotic luxuries. An extension of the acclaimed series The Good Dishes, Creatures of Curiosity represents the essence of tradition and the beauty of connections forged through gathering over a shared meal.

Our Mothers Ourselves, Legacies That Shape Us, Harvey Milk Gallery

Present or absent, revered or denied, mothers and motherhood have long been central to families and communities and a core subject of science as well as art. In light of the current battle about who makes decisions about motherhood, a refocus on our own mothers and their maternal legacies is especially timely.

In the exhibit Our Mothers Ourselves: Legacies That Shape Us, ten photographic based artists explore our maternal legacies, sharing our perspectives through photo-based images, constructed objects and audio narratives. Each series narrates a unique relationship or set of relationships running the gamut from awe of their caring and protection to sadness and even anger at their fallibilities and shortcomings. We hope the exhibit will inspire us to cherish or challenge the legacies of our mothers and honor the profound role they have in our lives. We invite you, the viewer, to reflect on your own maternal legacy and the ways in which someone in a maternal role has influenced you, nudging you and your life in one direction or another. Finally, we invite you to consider the even larger question: what legacy will you pass on?

Shift Exhibition, Bristol Art Museum

I am thrilled to announce that a curated selection of work from the series Descendants, Remembering Papa and The Good Dishes will be on view at the Bristol Art Museum, in Bristol RI from July 21- September 11th. Thank you to curator Mary Dondero for the opportunity and for including these bodies of work.

Curators' Notes: The artists who have works in Shift are questioning our mutual understanding of visual language, the way we construct ideas about objects, the materials that objects are made of, and the way we embed or assign the sometimes-arbitrary connotations to objects. If viewers are receptive to or respond intuitively to the artwork, they may find themselves questioning the cultural and physical world around us and its meaning.

2022 Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50

Words can not express how incredibly grateful and honored I am to be recognized in Photolucida's Critical Mass Top 50 for my assemblage series, Remembering Papa. The series focuses on the relationship between the family archive and personal memory.

Thank you to the 200 jurors for all your hard work and for recognizing this project. Close to 1000 photographic series from around the world are submitted to a pre-screen panel who narrows the field to 200 finalists. The finalists then go on to have their worked judged by a variety of photographic professionals who then narrow down the finalists to The Top 50. It's an achievement to make it as a finalist and very humbling to be considered in the Top 50.

I am forever thankful to the creative, brilliant, kind and always giving Dawn Surratt whose assemblage workshop opened up my world and paved the way for this series. Her words of wisdom have always stuck in my head throughout this project, "Think about what you want to say, then let the object speak to you" Thank you to Douglas Ramirez for your constant encouragement and for always being my sounding-board to run any idea by you and for being there to help me articulate my thoughts and finessing the individual stories.

Most of all, I want to thank my family, the Papa's, without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. My heart has always been filled with love for my family. My generation serves as the memory keepers for the Papa family. I am proud to share their stories, their traditions and the values they instilled in me with the younger and future generations of Papa's.

Creative Tonic Showcases Photographer JP Terlizzi work in 2021 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas

A very big thank you to Courtnay Tartt Elias of Creative Tonic and The Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas for incorporating two of my images, one from The Good Dishes and the other from Holding Arabesque in the design concept of the show house media lounge. Take a look they are both hanging over the sofa on the left. The media lounge took it decadent inspiration from Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge, one of my favorite musicals. The space is filled with luscious patterns, textures and colors. And who loves patterns more than me. What a perfect marriage. Thank you Courtnay and of course Bryn Larsen and Geoffrey Koslov for making this happen.
